Why Proper Handicap Stall Marking Is Critical

ADA compliance for accessible parking is not optional—it's a federal requirement that carries significant penalties for non-compliance. Beyond legal obligations, properly marked handicap spaces demonstrate your commitment to accessibility and inclusion. Our expert marking services help you:

Ensure Compliance

Meet all federal ADA requirements and state accessibility codes with properly sized and marked accessible spaces.

Avoid Penalties

Prevent costly fines and legal issues from ADA non-compliance with correctly installed accessible parking.

Improve Access

Provide safe, convenient parking for customers and employees with mobility limitations or disabilities.

Demonstrate Inclusion

Show your commitment to accessibility and equal access for all visitors to your property.

ADA Handicap Parking Requirements

Understanding ADA requirements for accessible parking ensures your property maintains full compliance. We handle all aspects of proper handicap space installation:

Space Dimensions

Standard accessible spaces require 8 feet of width for the parking space plus a 5-foot wide access aisle. Van-accessible spaces need an 8-foot access aisle. Spaces must have level surfaces (maximum 2% slope in all directions).

Number of Spaces Required

ADA specifies minimum accessible space counts based on total lot capacity. 1-25 spaces = 1 accessible; 26-50 = 2 accessible; 51-75 = 3 accessible, and so on. One in every six accessible spaces must be van-accessible.

Access Aisle Markings

Access aisles must be clearly marked with diagonal white or blue stripes and "No Parking" text. The aisle connects to an accessible route leading to the building entrance. Two accessible spaces may share one access aisle.

Signage Requirements

Vertical signs with the International Symbol of Accessibility must be installed at each accessible space. Signs must be at least 60 inches above ground and visible even when vehicles are parked. Van-accessible spaces require additional designation.
